Nottingham Sports Club of the Year 2011
Interested to know what we do during a typical session? Here, Absolute Triathlon Coach Cayci Lewis talks about the session she ran on Sunday March 27th for the juniors.
“Last week I did pacing for the run, set out a course, kids jogged one bit, faster the next, sprinted last bit etc. mixed it up by them following whistle blasts.
Bike - I did running with bike, mounting and cornering. Also did gearing when changing terrain (uphill/downhill etc) Split the kids by age/ability, gave the older ones a longer course.
Swim - We did front crawl, bottom lanes on technique, top lanes on bilateral breathing, endurance/sprints.
This week I did running drills through a course including fast feet, bounding, heel flips, high knees. Then some hills sprints as a race, which they really enjoyed.
I did Swim to bike transition, the kids removed helmet, shoes, I set up a mount line and they practiced that, Running up, shoes/helmet on, running with bike, then mounting. Then we had a little race to see who could transition the fastest. I gave them feedback on how to position helmets, where to put shoes etc. Also made it really clear about helmet being on and fastened, and not getting on bike before reaching the mount line. They all tried really hard and did really well. A few parents also mentioned they were happy the kids were getting the practice, and asked a few things about transition rules etc. Next week we’ll do bike to run transition, to follow on from this week. I also have the dates of the races some have entered to make sure I practice transition again with them the week before. I’m planning to go down there and cheer them on, they really are turning into a great group, and it was lovely to see them all yelling for each other/helping today.”
