The summer has played host to many of the Juniors’ taking part in Triathlons in the East Midland Series.
For most it was their first experience of competitive racing. The effort shown by ALL the Juniors’ was nothing short of OUTSTANDING! The ‘silverware’ cabinets must be gleaming with trophies, medals and items from those treasured ‘goody bags’! The children have developed a fantastic team spirit, supporting and cheering each other on at every opportunity! The events have been well organised, providing a safe and fun environment. With the season rapidly coming to an end, only the Lincoln Junior Triathlon and Charnwood Aquathlon in the series left, It’s now some of the children’s turn to shout about what they’ve achieved!

‘We thought it would be good to shout about the AMAZING efforts and successes of our Absolute Tri Star Juniors! They have had an amazing season to date, with 2 races left to go. achieving personal bests, podium positions and most of all a spirit of support and friendship that I cannot believe any other club could match!’  Judith Turner, Junior Race Coordinator.

Archie Penlington Tri Star 2 (aged 12)

Rother Valley Triathlon was my second race for Absolute.  The third triathlon of the year and the second in open water.  At Rother Valley, the water in the lake was actually warmer than air temperature outside which was a nice surprise.  I started and realized it was harder to breath than normal, then I realized my wetsuit was to tight round my neck! Then I came 4th out of the water and the transition went better than expected. I started on my bike and after a few meters someone had already overtaken me, this was when I realized a racing bike with bigger wheels would be better on the track rather than my mountain bike. Into transition 2, I was 8th. The run started well with only one person overtaking me. Then things went wrong losing three places on the final straight. I came across the finish line and was almost sick, this was because I had just had three days off school ill! This was my favourite triathlon because it had open water, there was a long track for the cycling and the run went a different way with only 1 lap.

Alana Meenan( Aged 8) Tri Start.

On the 13th of August I did my second triathlon at Erewash. It was Fun! We did it at West Park in Long Eaton. I was nervous and excited at the same time. Before we set off we jumped in the pool to get ready. The whistle blew loudly and we were off on our 50 metre swim. When I finished my swim, there was a long run to transition. I over took the girl who was 1st out the pool so now I was in the lead! When I was on my bike I saw that I was a long way ahead and even over took the boy in the wave before me! After my lap I racked my bike and threw my helmet on the floor and sprinted off for my run. I was very tired now but ran as fast as I could! My team mates were all shouting my name and that helped me to run faster! I crossed the finish line and felt really happy and pleased to finish.  At the end of the days racing, it was the award presentation. The man on the stage announced the winners, he said ‘The winner of the Tri Start Girls is... Alana Meenan!’ I was very proud of myself!! Sammy King was also the 1st place Tri Start Boy! Everyone cheered for me and Sammy, it was an amazing day!
