Open Water Swimming and Trnasition Practice

Hi folks

Just a quick reminder that it is open water tomorrow night. The water is still very cold (about 11 degrees) so wear a couple of swim hats!!

The session starts at 6.00 pm and it is for 2 hours so you can swim within this 2 hour window.

There is a running race at HPP on Friday evening so please ensure that you arrive in plenty of time. Parking is available in the Main Building Car park – please don’t park by the lake as you won’t be able to get back out again.

I know we have a lot of newbie’s coming along tomorrow so here’s a few tips:

1. Please ensure you get there in plenty of time
2. There are changing rooms in the Main Building however you can leave your stuff at the side of the lake (please note this is at your own risk)

3, You will need a wetsuit, brightly coloured swim hat (a couple would be good) and swim suit / tri suit to wear underneath
4. Goggles
5. Something to wear on your feet round the edge of the lake as treading in duck poo isn’t the most pleasant thing in the world.
6. The water at HPP is tested regularly and is clean. The rumours surrounding water quality come from the white water rafting course, the water in HPP is perfectly fine however please be sensible;, you are sharing the water with other animals and open water swimming comes with an element of risk. You can reduce any risk by not ingesting water, not swimming with cuts and showering afterwards. Please read through the disclaimer attached.

If you have any questions or concerns at all please speak to Steve at steve@absolutetri.com or 07503 156823

TRANSITION

We will be running a free transition practice session at HPP tomorrow night at 7.15 pm. Please bring all your gear with you including your bike and any other things that you would use during a race. This is a great opportunity to get some good quality practice in prior to Southwell and any other races you have coming up, so not to be missed!

In future weeks we will behaving a run session at 7.15 pm.

Kind regards

Mallory Park Triathlon Offers

Hi Steve and Jayne,

It’s that time of year again already! Not long to go until the May Bank Holiday event (May 7th).
If the Absolute Tri gang are up for racing this year we’ve got a couple of offers for you.

1) 1 free entry for every 4 Absolute Tri entries.

2) 1 free entry for every marshal provided (i.e. if Fred’s wife does some marshalling then Fred gets a free race).

This year’s event will be the 6th one and will be very similar to last year. Two races to choose from with a sprint distance and a super-sprint distance. The start will be in deeper water this year though as was a bit shallow at the start last year.

There’s also the ‘fastest lap’ challenge on the bike section – a race within a race. Great for beginners as very safe with a lake swim and a traffic-free bike, but also great for the speedsters too with no cars to worry about.

The super-sprint event is a 400m swim, a 12k bike and a 1.5k run. The sprint distance event is a 750m swim, a 20k bike and a 5k run. Newbies can also enter as a team with one person doing the swim, one doing the bike and one doing the run. Also a draft-legal youth & junior race.

See www.dbmax.co.uk for more details and then give me a shout when you have a group to enter and I’ll sort out the discount or free entries.

Cheers for now,

Will Whitmore
